Does running ACTUALLY help with getting rid of belly fat?

I’m 17 by the way in case you’re assuming I’m some middle aged mommy trying to get rid of post-pregnancy fat. haha.

Fat is burned when you walk, talk, run, swim, bike or any other activity. Glycogen/carbohydrates is burned in a larger proportion when you need energy for quick intense activities such as sprinting or weight lifting.

Running burns fat and is the primary fuel source for ultra distance athletes (or distances that require 3+ hours.). Belly fat can be more quickly burned off by low intensity long slow distance running. That is running at conversational pace for 30-60 minutes 4x per week. If you wish to target the belly fat faster, spin cycling cross training and swimming will accelerate the process as core muscle groups are engaged in running, biking and swimming.

Skip the sit ups and take a pilates class instead.

I would also recommend a pilates class. The fat that is burned the fastest is the fat that is closest to the muscle groups being worked at an aerobic (fat burning) rate.

    No
    running does not burn fat.

fat burns too slow for running, and your body wont use it

the answers below are incorrect, you only tap into your fat stores when you run hard for 30-60 minutes- when all glycogen is depleted. Any novice will have a hard time running that hard

Yes, running will cause your body to tap into its fat stores, in particular if you’re burning calories in excess of those you consume.

We don’t get to choose from where our body burns that fat though — the belly is usually the last place to lose its excess fat.

So running (and generally burning calories) can eventually help you get rid of belly fat, but it could take awhile depending on where else you have it stored as well.

Yes, running will burn fat. Not right away though. Running to burn fat off your belly is actually not the way to go. The human body uses more energy tying to burn protein.
Therefore, you need to increase your protein intake, and jog on a consistent daily routine.
Rome wasn’t built in a day, but you CAN do this.

You can do this, because you are better than what you think.
Running is a very self rewarding sport. The more you put into it, the better the results.
