fitness to better mental and physical self due to illness?

Sunday, December 27th, 2009

Hello everyone,

I was wondering if I could get some help from some of the Yahoo community.

Im 23/m (usually 160lbs) – but due to recent diagonsis of depression and psychosis, my weight has dipped and sticks around 140lbs.

Im starting to excercise (and i feel great about it) but im having trouble gaining weight back because of the excercises.

I usually goto the gym and do a bit of rowing, cycling, abs, weight training and leg press.

any tips or suggestions would help? thank you

Try eating more. You didn’t mention how tall you are, but MOST guys who exercise should eat between 2000-2500 calories a day. That is A LOT of food :-O

Also try adding more protein to your diet. Steak and Eggs for breakfast, protein shakes, fish etc.

Sometimes people just don’t GAIN weight easily (oh how i wish for that gene haha) you could try talking to your doctor about it.

Good luck!

What is a good way to work your lower abs?…. any other workout/diet tips?

Sunday, December 27th, 2009

I really need to get into shape. If anyone can help me with anything… diet advice, workout tips, how to work my lower abs, my upper legs, ANYTHING really. Thank you in advance!
OH… and I would really like things I could do around the house… not have to go to the gym for… even though I do have a gym membership. :-/

keep your diet clean. stay away from junk foods, sweets, soda/pop and other sugary, starchy foods.

do some push ups, squats, lunges, and sit ups before your cardio activity every other day.

easy ways to rid cellulite, flatten tummy, and strengthen abs?

Sunday, December 27th, 2009

i need to get in shape because…well, summer’s around the corner :P

anybody have any fun, non surgical ways to rid cellulite, flatten tummy, and strengthen abs?

i work out a lil every day…i dance, so i suppose thats kinda cardio. but i wanted to run too. what does running do in my situation?

when you work out do you sweat? I served in the Marine Corps. We were required to run 3 miles. Later, i found out just a ten minute run would do the trick for staying in shape. when the same work out, after a while, renders you sweat free, go harder, longer, and switch it up. Sweat is the best medicine for weight loss. Stay away from sodas and alcohol, replace it with water. take this "pill" for about a month and you will start to notice a pleasant change. 90 days, a whole new you. courtesy http://blackworxinc.com.

What is an example of a 6 meal a day plan for great abs, no diet supplements. Theyre dangerous.?

Sunday, December 27th, 2009

I don’t want to take dietary supplements to get abs because I take too much medication and I consider them dangerous, Any suggestions to add healthy foods to get great abs and replace supplements?

I’m glad you are looking for nutrition in food vs diet supplements-I agree not too good for you and with you taking meds -shows you think with sense. You probably already know its 1.Protein 2.Carbs(the good kind) 3 Fats-derived from no-meat sources A example of a 6 meal eating plan(naturally they are 6 smaller meals compared to 3 large meals-watch the calories). No need to be carrying a calorie counter and measure every time you eat-unless overeater-But do check Contents-esp Sodium,Sugar,Fats and Calories PER SERVING. I start my day with 2 slices of Sprouted Grain Bread named Ezekiel found in the health food section of Kroger,in the freezer. Its a live sprouted grain bread -no flour-has barley, millet and so on and also I get the one that says low glycemic-the grains from the bible found Ezekiel Chaper 4verse9-I love it with no sugar preserves(currently i’m doing blueberries). Can also have a regular bagel with Cream Cheese or Oatmeal cooked in milk(skim)For sugar I use Stevita-from a plant 0 Cal.and no aspertame and so on.get at a health food store, can also cook with it-approx $3. but cheaper at a Farmers Market. Mid-morning can have Yogurt or fruit.cheese Lunch Chicken (baked)& steamed or microwaved vegetables mid afternoon cheese/fruit or yogurt-if really get a taste for chips get the baked and wach the serving amt and calories per serving Dinner-salad with no or low fat dressing-instead of iceberg(v.little nutrition value)eat other lettuce or greens and then whatever else Turkey or Fish(because of the Mercury content in fish I do not eat more than 2xweek) brown rice(more nutritious for white has hardly any) cranberry either whole or jellied-whole berries are better-I get canned—I’m not a dessert person but anything low-sugar and low-fat. Snacks-nuts esp walnut because high in fat(the good kind and proven to lower cholesterol no more than 15 pieces,Soy chips-I like the ones with cheese,Seeds-sunflower,pumpkin etc the trick to eating nutritious is to eat food that has fair amount of Vitamins, minerals and the least amount of man added such as growth hormones,antibiotics,pesticides-why i buy organic. Low sugar, low white flour. Investigate the health food section of your grocery Store and if there is one in your area the Farmers Market-for stuff is fresh and costs less. Some of the foods good for you——Salmon(although high in fat it is the good fat and it is high in protein-can have for any meal-often I will eat small patty for breakfast-but only WILD since the farm raised is way too high in fat for fish do not move very much-kept in ponds(small) and fed and it will say which ion the package, Berries-all are good whichever in season and also the dried-but chk sugar for higher in dried, Prunes are very good for high in Potassium, fiber and low-fat but if they stimulate too much limit to a couple here and there, apples-very healthy fruit and of course all the melons and citrus ruits, All Vegetables are great for loaded with nutrientsMineral,Vitamins -but no canned although I do here and there get corn for most too high in salt chk contnts for sodium Because you are working on defining muscles important you get sufficient protein-egg white although eggs are good for you Ok to have 2-3xweek-the whites is high in protein, Soy is good for protein and has a Protein shake that is safe and good for you-can find Kroger, health food store-nothing in it that is not natural or will harm-check it out, Tuna Fish is good biut again in moderation, Peanut Butter is also source of Proitein and good fat-if you can eat get low-salt,low sugar but hs to gt used to it You may want to go to Borders and get a good Nutrition Book for a handy reference that also has samples of meals

How can I lose my stomach fat and feel better about ME?

Sunday, December 27th, 2009

I have been doing ballet for 3 years and I am going to start bellydancing as soon as our post recital break is over. I feel very uncomfortable with my body and I know I am on the right track by eating healthy and exercising, but I am only seeing my stomach grow instead of shrink. I feel very fat compared to all the other ballerinas and even my best friend who is just a little toothpick. Why can’t I be naturally thin? Somtimes I wish I was anoerxic, and wish I could be but I can not make myself puke. How can I lose my stomach without hurting myself? I just want to be comfortable with me!

As you get into bellydancing you will find that it will tone your stomach and you will feel better about yourself. Bellydancing is one of those things that makes you feel beautiful and feminine no matter your size…the movements are perfect for a woman’s body and curves.

Children’s fitness declining across world (Guardian Unlimited)

Saturday, December 26th, 2009

Even children who have not got fat have become less fit over the past decade, according to research published today. Obesity is not the only enemy of children’s health, according to sports and exercise specialists writing in the medical journal, Archives of Disease in Childhood. They say that even those children who are not overeating are frighteningly inactive and may pay the price in terms of …

What are some good exercises to get abs within three weeks? Are there any?

Friday, December 25th, 2009

For the most part I have a flat stomach but it would be nice to be a little more ‘abby’. Any suggestions?

There is no exercise that will give you abs. There is no such thing as spot training..

Its all about bodyfat% So in three weeks if you can drop your body fat% low enough your abs can and will show.

There is no amount of ab workouts or excersises you can do that will allow your abdominals to show. Just work on your diet and do some abs so you dont feel guilty. Then you can make your abs look even better!

Hope that helps!!

Weight Loss?

Friday, December 25th, 2009

I’m 5′2 and weigh about 106. I’ve gained about 2-3 lbs in the past year, and while I am NOT saying that my weight is overweight by any means, I’m still having a very difficult time getting it back to what it was. I work out 3-4 times a week, doing a combination of cardio (30-40 minutes combined of one or more of the following: treadmill, eliptical and/or bike) as well as 10-20 minutes of muscle training (arms and abs). I eat very healthy and have even decreased my caloric intake to lose the 2 lbs I put on, but can’t seem to do it. Any advice or diet/fitness tips?

I am 5′2 also and I think your weight is fine, I know what you mean though. In October I was around 106 pounds and now I am 113, I think I gained weight from muscle because I am a long distance runner. You should continue to exercise and if nothing happens it might just be muscle weight which is good and means you are stronger. If your clothes do not Even fit differently then do not worry.

How do i workout my abs i need some exercises?

Friday, December 25th, 2009

i wanna work out my abs and if you may just please give me some workouts!

Some people believe that you should only do ab exercises to develop abs quickly, but the truth is you need to do a range of exercises that not only build muscles but burn fat. Check out the following:

How can i flatten/firm up my abs asap?

Friday, December 25th, 2009

I’m female, 5′8" and 130 lbs. My waist is 27" and hips 36". I don’t have a big belly, it’s not noticeable if I’m standing up, however, as soon as i bend, or sit, or lay it rolls over quite a bit. When I do push ups, it totally hangs! And when I do crunches or any effort with the area, my stomach potrudes too much! Most of the problem is in the area below the belly button. I’ve got a little bit of love handles too. I would like to get rid of those as well.
What can i do to get rid of the flab or make my stomach stay in place, or defy gravity if you will? And maybe define my waistline a little more? What exercises are recommended for this?
Thanks!

You must have a good diet which I recommend the Abs Diet.

Get the metabolism going higher. Just like any other muscle, you must add weight resistance even though it’s your stomach. Try medicine balls and what not.

Eat healthy, and do cardio such as running. You need to get your total body fat %tage under 10%.

Good Luck and anymore help please email me. Thanks.
Peace.

To get better abs, can i just diet instead of doing cardio?

Friday, December 25th, 2009

Been doing loads of ab work, 8 minute abs etc and yeh i know you should do cardio but i don’t have time for cardio as well and i smoke so i’m not too interested in it (please dont comment saying quit smoking and do cardio)

So if i just diet really well would that be the same as doing a lot of cardio work?

Smoking leads to fat being stored in the belly area.

What’s better for burning stomach fat? Interval training or a slower more consistent run?

Friday, December 25th, 2009

Interval training is supposedly good, but my heart rate maxes out near 180 (i actually think its higher and the treadmill maxes out at 180) or running slower at a constant speed trying to keep my heart rate in the "fat burn" zone? Supposedly both methods are good for burning fat, but which is better for burning stomach fat?

Interval training, but keeping your hear rate accelerated is the best. Jog at about 5 miles an hour or so for 5 minutes, and then sprint at about 8 mph for a minute and repeat through your workout.

Good exercises for abs and pecs out of gym?

Tuesday, December 22nd, 2009

i need good exercises for my pecs and abs that i can do at home

One of the best exercises for pecs is push-ups. If you can do them easily from the toes, then you can make them even harder by elevating your feet on a bench or stability ball. If that’s too easy, you can do them on the floor and get someone to add resistance by pushing on your back. You can also add instablilty by placing one or both hands on an unstable surface such as an inflated disc.

These types of push-ups also do work your abs. Especially these…stagger your hand positions. One hand at shoulder level, and the other above your head (still on the floor). Do a few, then switch hand positions and do the same number again.

If push-ups from the toes are too difficult, you can do them from the knees.

Some good ab work to do at home are V-sits with torso twists. To add resistance, do them while holding a weight or weighted ball.

You can do a great push-up core combo as follows…Do a full push-up. Rotate your body into a side bridge position* and hold for a few seconds. Rotate back into push-up position and do another full push-up. Rotate your body into a side bridge position on the other side and hold. Repeat doing push-up, side bridge, push-up side bridge until you can’t do any more.

*A right side bridge is when your right hand is on the floor, your right arm is straight, your hips are stacked, your legs are straight, your right foot is on the floor and your left foot rests on top of your right foot. Your left arm is straight up in the air. Your body looks like the letter "t".

Good luck!

Can you help me?

Tuesday, December 22nd, 2009

how much pounds should i loose i have a lil gut from drinking and being an idiot now i am trying to get in beter shape i do go to the gym 5 times a week i have been doing that for 3 months my girlfriend dosent seem to mind but i think it will make her happy and me happy if i got some sexy abs so i am 5′9 166 pounds 30-33 waistline i dont want togo on no unhealthy low carb diet i just wants some health and fitness tips please.
i forgot i am 19 yearsold everything in my body is hard except for stomache

Well you are right on the cuspof being overweight according to the BMI scale. Start by taking an honest look at what you are eating and find some simple things to cut out of your diet. One easy way it to cut out soft drinks. Since a 12 ounce can of coke is 150 calories, cutting 1 out a day and replacing it with water will save you a lot of calories per week. Cut back on the drinking especially. Alcohol is processed immediately to simple sugars and turned into fat if not used immediately. Do not replace the regular soda with a diet soda, there is no effect to help you lose weight. Since you fo to the gym 5 times a week, look at your routine. Contrary to popular beliefs, just doing crunches won’t give you a washboard stomach. Your abs will get stronger, but the layer of fatty tissue above them won’t disappear and you could get the look of a distended belly. Make sure you are doing cardio along with your regular workouts. I would recommend adding something like spining or swimming to your routine. That should allow you to burn off the fat and not look like a sissy in the process. One hour of either of those added three days a week should have you slim in no time.

Does the "hip hop abs" workout really work?

Tuesday, December 22nd, 2009

I saw an infomercial today on this product, and I was wondering if it’s just a gimmick, or if it really delivers those results. I want a workout similar to that, and the results look great, but i don’t want to waste my money. Has anyone used this workout or know someone who has? Does it work?

Look at the model promoting the product – PHYNE as hell. They don’t show big mamma or big daddy dancing to those videos. Oh yeah a few before and after, but still even some of those befores don’t look too bad. And with computer morphing, what’s to say what’s true or not.

The SECRET to all those diet plans is Exercise and Diet. Take note of the disclaimer at the bottom of the screen.

The Abs Diet For Women- Just another Low-Carb Diet?

Tuesday, December 22nd, 2009

I am planning to purchase this book based on a recomendation. Can someone give me just the basics of the plan. Is it based on a low-carb lifestyle?

Thanks!

No. It’s based on twelve foods you should eat. They include things like oatmeal, whey protein, blueberrys, almonds and other nuts. There are a series of weight lifting exercises and you alternate these with cardio (I do walking). The diet is great if you can afford the foods. You get to eat six small meals per day. I like it because you don’t pay hundreds of dollars for it. Your initial investment is the book, you buy the food anyway, and you have the option of purchasing the weights and ball.

You can use a chair and milk jugs instead if you have to.
You can get a better idea of it at the men’s health website. Check it out before you buy the book.

Tuesday, December 22nd, 2009

I know swimsuit season is basically here but what can i do to lose stomach fat and upper thigh fat? I mean like what kind of exercises would be good to do and what types of food?

More raw veggies & fruit, less meat & dairy. Do not cut anything out though, and try to find some vegetable sources for protein (beans, hemp, etc).

Crunches for the stomach & bike/run/walk for the legs.

Good luck!

What are good exercises for arms, abs, butt and legs?

Saturday, December 19th, 2009

I can’t do press ups on the floor. I can do a variation of them were you push against the wall but I don’t think they are doing much. I do 3 reps of 15 twice a day

Kneeling Butt Lift – On all fours, balancing on your hands and knees, place your hands under your shoulders. Your knees should be under your hips. Flex your foot and bend your knee at a 90-degree angle. In this position, lift your leg high into the air until your thigh is parallel to the floor.

Butt Lift (Bridge) – Lie down, on your back, on a floor mat. Place your hands on either side of the body. Bend your knees and then lift your hips from the floor. Make sure to keep your back straight and your glutes tight. Hold the "squeeze" position for a few seconds and release. Do as many reps as possible.
